Morning Running

5 Reasons to Wake & Run

Sometimes, motivation is like a 5 year old who only wants to play hide & go seek, but it’s really good at hiding. Here are 5 reasons I go running first thing when I wake up.

1) Find Motivation Hiding Along Your Route

Getting out the door is the hardest part. The longer you stay home the longer you spend looking for motivation to get going.

Eventually you talk yourself out of going and then spend the day feeling down about not doing what you know you should have.

The secret is, motivation is hiding somewhere along your route. You just gotta go out and find it. Tricksie motivations.

2) I’m Already Not Looking Good

I don’t know about you, but I’m not going to be winning any beauty pageants when I first wake up. That hashtag #WokeUpLikeThis? Lies. Dirty lies.

I also know I’m not a pretty runner. It’s unpleasant to see.

If I wake up, take a shower, and get dressed, I’m less likely to want to change into running gear later. I know I’m just going to get gross from running and have to take another shower. “I’ll do it later,” I think, and wind up never going.

Wake up looking like a train wreck, and go running. I’m already as gross as I’m going to be for the day, only way to go is up from there.

3) Cooler Temperatures

Heat is not for me. I moved from Austin TX mainly because I was tired of triple digit temperatures. Now I’m in Chicago, but it can still get super hot during the summer months.

If I go running first thing, it hasn’t gotten too awful by then, and it’s a lot easier to go farther before I feel like I’m breathing through a wet sponge.

4) Get Your Energy On!

Once I get back from running, I feel good about being active, and the energy I get from it sticks with me all day.

It’s like I get back from the run, and motivation pops out from behind the curtains and gives you a big hug. Motivation doesn’t mind if I’m sweaty. He’s just glad to see me, and won’t leave me alone for the rest of the day.

5) You Get to See Bunnies

If you’re running in the early morning, you get to see lots of wildlife.

Even here in Chicago, there are plenty of bunnies hopping around looking for breakfast. Squirrels are plentiful, too, but they’re basically tree rats.

Conclusion

As an entertainer, I’m often working late and stay up even later. Starting my day with a run helps keep me going for the daylight hours. Get up, get it done, and get ready for the rest of the day.

If you have any suggestions on how you stay active, I’d love to hear it! Feel free to send me an email from the sidebar, or get in touch on Facebook!
