Road Food

Heading to Vegas!

This is a story of success and not-quite-so-much-success.

I’m currently in Denver stopped at a Starbucks in the middle of the drive from Chicago to Vegas. For the first time, I decided to try something new; bring my own food with me on the road.

It was my sweetie’s idea, and it’s fantastic.

Here are 3 reasons why.

Reason #1 Saving a ton of money.

Instead of paying nearly $20/meal for the two of us, we’re getting to use the groceries we already bought earlier in the week, at significantly cheaper prices.

Even after factoring in buying a cooler for the back seat, we’re way ahead on the money front.

Reason #2 Easier Stops

Having to wait until you find the perfect alignment of right food/restroom/fuel options, now I can fuel up anywhere, and then grab something out of the cooler when I feel like chowing down.

Reason #3 Built-In Success

With the portions built into the containers, it’s easy to keep track of how much I’m eating, and I automatically know it’s exactly the kind of food I need.

No more guessing if this place will have low-carb options. Everything is spelled out in advance.

Not-So-Success

Being the first time I’m trying this, there was bound to be a hitch in the plan. Turns out, I’m the weak link.

I completely forgot about the cooler in the back, and neglected to bring it in with us when we got to my buddy’s place in Denver.

That means, in the morning, the sun came up, and baked the whole thing, and now all the food we were going to eat today has been in the danger zone for way too long.

So, now, we’re at Starbucks. I’m writing this post, and I guess we’re back to finding stuff we can eat for the remainder of the drive.

I’ll let you know how the rest of today goes.
